Regional Pathology Services was formed in 1974 to facilitate development and regional access to cutting edge testing technologies at UNMC and to provide an avenue for pathology consultation with University of Nebraska Medical Center pathologists. We have experienced significant growth and change in the last 30 years of operation but remain committed to our initial goals. Regional Pathology Services provides marketing, client services, specimen triaging and billing services for the University of Nebraska Department of Pathology and Microbiology and the NHS Clinical Laboratories. Our services include but are not limited to: Clinical and Anatomic Pathology Testing and Consultation Courier or pre-paid overnight mail service Supplies needed to transport specimens Remote site report printers Faxed reporting 31 Specialty trained pathologists are available in the following anatomic disciplines: Bone and Soft Tissue Breast Cardiovascular Clinical Cytogenetics Cytopathology Dermatopathology Electrophoresis Flow Cytometry Gastrointestinal Gynecologic Head and Neck Hematology Hematopathology Hepatopathology Immunohistochemistry Mass Spectroscopy Medical Microbiology Molecular Diagnostics Nephropathology Neuropathology Pulmonary Surgical Transfusion Medicine Transplant Urologic   We provide a 24 hour, full service clinical laboratory including: Clinical Chemistry and Urinalysis Cytogenetics Flow Cytometry Hematology and Coagulation Histocompatibility Immunology and Serology Microbiology and Virology Molecular Diagnostics in Hematology, Microbiology, Parentage and Forensic Testing Transfusion Medicine/Cell Processing The strength of our programs is inherent to our academic affiliation. The pathologists all hold primary appointments in the University of Nebraska Medical School and to varying degrees all have service, teaching and research responsibilities. Through the Department of Pathology and Microbiology we maintain teaching programs for residents of pathology and students of medical technology and cytopathology. Pathology staff are responsible for a significant component of the medical school curriculum for sophomore medical students. We also have expertise in public health and function as the Nebraska Public Health Laboratory through contract with the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services. Most significantly, the pathologists and technical and clerical staff are all committed to a strong customer service focus which, is often missing as a component of the academic mindset. We provide pathology services in a wide variety of health care settings and will tailor services to meet your needs. Our current customer base includes other academic medical centers, private pathology practices, hospital laboratories, smaller reference laboratories, commercial clinical trials services and doctor offices. Regional Pathology Services provides both client and patient or patient's insurance billing services. Please note that the Nebraska Medical Center files our claims and may not always be contracted with a local insurance plan. In these cases, if the patient's insurance is billed and the Nebraska Medical Center does not contractually participate in the plan the balance of the bill will be applied to the year deductible and the patient will be responsible for balance due. For Medicare patient's that are hospital in-patients at the time of specimen collection, the technical component will be billed to you or your business as the client and the professional component will be billed to the patient. Forms will be provided to identify Medicare in-patients prior to testing. The client fee schedule for Anatomical Services will be included with this letter. Our client fees for both technical and professional components are competitive. If you choose to have us bill you or your business as the client, a statement will be faxed to you as each consultation case is completed and this amount will be reflected on your monthly statement.
