Research:
My clinical responsibilities include the interpretation of hematopathology-related surgical specimens,
bone marrow biopsies, immunohistochemistry, and molecular gene rearrangement studies by Southern blot and
PCR. In molecular diagnostics, I have developed assays for T-cell receptor gamma rearrangements for
diagnosing lymphoma using denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis and capillary electrophoresis. I am
also interested in characterizing subtypes of T-cell lymphomas.
My research involves the study of the etiology and progression of lymphoma by examining the mutational
spectra of oncogenes and tumor suppresser genes. My laboratory is currently involved in characterizing
mutations in ATM, p53 and bcl-6. We are correlating mRNA expression patterns in lymphoma with patient
survival, mutation status, and morphological subtypes.
The emphasis on molecular epidemiology involves the identification of EBV subtypes molecular abnormalities
in posttransplant lymphoproliferative disorders. Current funding to study post-transplant lymphomas is
from the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
