Interests:
Director of Anatomic Pathology
Research:
Surgical pathology especially tumor pathology and urologic pathology carcinogenesis. My research includes
clinicopathological studies on urinary tract tumors, (bladder, ureter, renal pelvis), including papillary
urothelial tumors as well as rare subtypes such as signet ring cell carcinoma, small cell carcinoma,
lymphoepithelial carcinoma and micropapillary carcinoma. The WHO/ISUP consensus classification of bladder
tumor grading was utilized in a large series of prospectively studied urinary bladder tumors and found to
be prognostically valid. Studies have been performed in collaboration with urologists at Sahlgrenska
University Hospital in Göteborg Sweden, and University of Tromsö Norway. Continued studies of interstitial
cystitis has also been performed in collaboration with basic scientists and urologists at Sahlgrenska
University Hospital. Collaborative studies on prostate cancer are ongoing with researchers in the
department of biochemistry and urology and involves evaluation of various tumor markers using archival
material and in vitro methods.
