The Neuropathology Clinical Service provides regional consultation for the evaluation of brain tumors,
developmental disorders, neuromuscular diseases, dementias, and movement disorders. Metabolic disorders
such as leukodystrophies, neuronal storage disorders, peroxisomal diseases, and mitochondrial disorders
are also evaluated.
The neuropathology research activities focus on brain tumors, neurodevelopment, and neurodegenerative
disease. Current experimental work includes a collaborative project to study estrogen-induced prolactinomas
and mammary carcinomas in rats, using immunohistochemistry for the detection of prolactin, growth hormone,
and cell proliferation markers (PI: James Shull, Eppley Institute).
