Research
Research topics are in broad areas of test development, test utility assessment, quantitative
image analysis and informatics in laboratory medicine. Current projects include: assessment of
utility of 1,5-anhydroglucitol and time-resolved glycated hemoglobin for routine monitoring of
glycemic control in diabetics; image analysis for automated specimen integrity monitoring;
mathematical analysis of negative bias in immunoassays; quantitative image analysis for data
reduction in colorimetric assays; expert systems programming and analyses for protein electrophoresis
and for acid-base disorders; informatics issues in data reduction in automated systems. Clinical
development work is focused on expansion of analytical services through utilization of mass
spectrometry (LC-MS/MS, GC-MS and ICP-MS).
